3-step sparring: without a partner

In 3-step sparring without a partner, the student will perform both halves of basic 3-step sparring without a partner. He/she will first perform the attacker’s portion and then the defender’s portion.

•ATTACKER PORTION
Distance Measurement: The student comes to attention and then steps forward with his/her right foot into a right walking stance.
Preparatory Move: The student steps back with his/her right foot while executing a left walking stance and a low side block with the left outer forearm. The attacker should kihap at the same time as he/she executes the block. Attacks: The student steps forward into a right walking stance while executing a right middle forefist punch. The student steps forward into a left walking stance while executing a left middle forefist punch. The student steps forward into a right walking stance while executing a right middle forefist punch. Return to Ready Position: The student steps backward into a parallel ready stance.

•DEFENDER PORTION
Preparatory Move: The student comes to attention, then steps into parallel ready position and kihaps to signal his/her readiness to begin the defender portion of this exercise.
Defense and Counterattack: The student steps back with the right foot into a left walking stance while executing a middle block with the left inner forearm. The student steps back with the left foot into a right walking stance while executing a middle block with the right inner forearm. The student steps back with the right foot into a left walking stance while executing a middle block with the left inner forearm. Without stepping forward, changing stance, or leaning forward, the student executes a right middle forefist punch and kihaps. Return to Ready Position: The student steps forward with his/her right foot into a parallel ready stance.
